If we ignore bad behaviors, they learn that boundaries are fuzzy or non-existent. It's up to us to be consistent in reinforcing good behaviors and correcting bad behaviors.

Thank you for visiting, I hope you'll come back often.WomanWhoRunsWithHorseshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13444735851486747330noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872983555212036732.post-26130618030160974652010-08-15T11:50:48.342-05:002010-08-15T11:50:48.342-05:00New to your blog and have really enjoyed it. As another commented, often I have to think twice about what ignorant passers bye might think... We don't want to hurt our animals but we do remind them of their manners using noise n movement/pressure etc. Usually that lesson is learned once and a happy relationship follows ever after. So few people understand animals anymore and do more harm with good intentions- they create behavior problems then "sadly" give up on the animal to a shelter, auction etc. Our animals are a cherished part of our family, but they (and our children) understand, respect and appreciate our role as providers and caregivers. I think it makes for a happy life for them where they are welcomed into new settings and can always find a good home.Leslie @ Farm Fresh Funhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03970398718118889905noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2872983555212036732.post-40412870645793532112010-08-09T16:36:43.417-05:002010-08-09T16:36:43.417-05:00I learned something new today. Horses are like children they like boundries. Funny thing is that most animals have the same herd/ flock instinct and someone has to be the leader(#1, then #2 and so on). Even our cows are taught from day one that we are the #1 "bossy" and unless they get frightened or are hurt and in pain, they seem comforted in this knowledge.

Thanks for sharing your approach, you hit the nail on it's head, keep working with her and reinforcing it for her.
